Terms of use
Last updated: 2026-10-22
These terms apply to the Nikkomander application ("the software") and to this web site. They are an agreement between you and Nikkoid LLC ("we", "us"). By downloading, installing or using the software, you accept these terms. If you do not accept them, do not use the software.
1. Shareware licence
Nikkomander is distributed as shareware. It is the property of Nicolas Choukroun and is distributed and licensed by Nikkoid LLC; you receive a right to use it, not ownership.
- Individuals may use the unregistered (evaluation) copy free of charge, without time limit, for personal and non-commercial purposes. The program shows a reminder that asks you to register. A personal licence (USD 19) removes the reminder and supports development; it covers all the computers its holder personally owns or uses.
- Companies and organisations (companies, self-employed professionals, administrations, associations, schools) and any commercial use need one company licence per seat. Prices per seat (USD): 1-9 seats 19, 10-24 seats 15, 25-49 seats 12, 50-99 seats 9, 100-199 seats 7, 200-499 seats 6, 500 seats and more 5. A seat is one computer on which Nikkomander is installed or one user who uses it, whichever count is higher. Organisations may evaluate Nikkomander free of charge for 40 days; after that they must buy licences or stop using it. See the buy page.
- A licence key is issued for a name and an e-mail address and is personal to its holder. It must not be published, shared outside its holder, sold or given away; a published key may be revoked in later versions. A licence is valid for the version purchased and, unless stated otherwise at purchase, for all later 2.x versions.
Distribution
You may copy and distribute the unregistered evaluation copy freely (download sites, compilations), provided that the package is complete and unmodified, that no licence key, key file (nikkomander.key, license.txt), key generator, patch or crack is added, that no fee is charged for Nikkomander itself (a reasonable fee for the media or the service is allowed), and that Nikkomander is not presented as your own product or bundled with software that installs itself without the user's clear consent.
You may not sell the software, distribute modified copies of it, remove its copyright notices, reverse-engineer the licence check, or present it as your own work.
2. Your files are your responsibility
Nikkomander is a file manager: it copies, moves, renames, overwrites, packs and deletes files when you ask it to, including permanent deletions (Shift+F8 / Shift+Delete, deletes inside archives) and overwrites you confirm. Always check what is marked before running an operation, and keep regular backups of anything important. We cannot recover files that were deleted or overwritten.
3. Archives and passwords
Encrypted .nik archives can only be opened with their password. If you lose the password, nobody, including us, can recover the contents.
4. No warranty
The software and this site are provided "as is" and "as available", without warranty of any kind, express or implied, including fitness for a particular purpose, merchantability and non-infringement. We do not guarantee that the software is free of errors or will work without interruption on every system.
5. Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, Nikkoid LLC and its author will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special or consequential damages, or for any loss of data, profits or business, arising from the use of or the inability to use the software or this site. Where liability cannot be excluded, it is limited to the amount you paid for the software, if any. Nothing in these terms limits rights you have as a consumer that cannot be limited by contract.
6. Third-party components
The software includes open-source components, such as the Tauri framework, the NikPak compression library and fonts released under the SIL Open Font License. Each remains under its own licence. Programs you start from Nikkomander, and services such as network drives, are governed by their own terms.
7. Trademarks
Nikkomander, NikPak and Nikkoid are names of Nikkoid LLC. Total Commander, Norton Commander, Windows, macOS, Linux and other names mentioned belong to their respective owners and are used only to describe compatibility or inspiration.
8. Privacy
How we handle information is described in the privacy policy.
9. Changes and termination
We may update these terms; the new version applies from the date shown at the top of this page. You can stop using the software at any time by uninstalling it. Your right to use the software ends automatically if you break these terms.
10. Contact
